Andreas Springer was born in Linz, Austria, in 1966. He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, in 1991, the Dr. techn. (Ph.D) degree and the Univ.-Doz. (Habilitation) degree both from the University of Linz, Austria, in 1996 and 2001, respectively. From 1991 to 1996 he was with the Microelectronics Institute, since 1997 he holds the position of an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Communications and Information Engineering both at the University of Linz, Austria, and since July 2002 he is head of this institute.

He has been engaged in research work on GaAs integrated millimeter-wave TED’s, MMIC’s and millimeter-wave sensor systems. His current research interests are focused on simulation of wireless communication systems, spread spectrum communications, single and multi-carrier communications, UWB, linearization of power amplifiers, direct conversion architectures, equalization, UMTS, and RFIC’s. In these fields, he has published more than 70 papers in journals and at international conferences.
Dr. Springer is a member of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques, the Communications, and the Vehicular Technology societies.

Andreas Springer beendete sein Elektrotechnik-Studium an der Technischen Universität Wien 1991, promovierte 1996 am Institut für Mikroelektronik der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz und habilitierte sich 2001 an der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz im Fach Nachrichtentechnik.

Seit 1997 ist er Universitätsassistent und seit Oktober 2001 a.Univ.-Prof. am Insitut für Nachrichtentechnik/ Informationstechnik in Linz, dessen Vorstand er seit Juli 2002 ist. Seine Forschungsarbeiten umfassten integrierte GaAs Millimeterwellenoszillatoren, MMIC’s und Millimeterwellen-Sensorsysteme. Derzeitige Arbeitsgebiete sind: Simulation von drahtlosen Kommunikationssystemen, Spread-Spectrum Systeme, Linearisierung von Leistungsverstärkern, Direct-Conversion-Architekturen, Frequenzbereichsentzerrung, UMTS, OFDM und integrierte Hochfrequenzschaltungen für den Mobilfunk. In diesen Fachgebieten publizierte Dr. Springer mehr als 70 Beiträge in Fachzeitschriften und auf internationalen Konferenzen.

Dr. Springer ist Mitglied der IEEE Gruppen Microwave Theory and Techniques, Communications, und Vehicular Technology.
