Dr. Georg Fischer was born 1965 in Wachtendonk Germany. From 1986 to 1992 he studied Electrical Engineering with focus on Communications, RF, electromagnetic theory and acoustics at University of Aachen (RWTH).
His Dimploma thesis dealt with Finite Elemente Modelling of optical waveguides and components. From 1993 to 1996 he was an assistant at University of Paderborn dealing with microwave circuit and antenna design for adaptive arrays. In 1997 he got Dr.-Ing. The thesis was about an adaptive receiving system for the reception of bradcast satellite signals. Special emphasis was paid to the joined adaption of beam pattern and polarisation with a polrisation agile antenna array.
In 1996 he joind the forward looking department of Lucent Technologies in Nuremberg Germany now named Wireless Advanced Technology Lab. He contributes to advanced development on future radio architectures and supporting technologies. In the area of network technology and RF planning he focuses on implementation aspects of capacity and coverage enhancement techniques especially with basestations. His professional interests are in RF-MEMS, power amplifiers and their linearization and wide band gap RF power devices. As a physical layer expert he is interested in spectrum and regulatory issues and adaptive antenna technology and its impact on the basestation architecture. He also acted as a chairman in ETSI for the physical layer standardisation of the GSM evolution EDGE.
In 2000 he got Bell Labs DMTS (Distinguished Member of Technical Staff).
In 2001 he got promoted Bell Labs CMTS (Consulting Member of Technical Staff).
He is a member of IEEE-AP/VTC/MTT/COMSOC and VDE-ITG. He also acts as a lecturer at University of Erlangen at the Dept. of RF. His lecture is entitled "RF Architecture of mobile communication basestations".
