Dr. Hans Martin Braun

Dr. Hans Martin Braun is a sound expert in Radar Systems (SAR, Synthetic Aperture Radar, and GPR, Ground Penetration Radar). He received his Dr.-Ing. (German PhD) on SAR Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. Today, he is General Director of RST Radar Systemtechnik AG, Board Member of RST Raumfahrt Systemtechnik GmbH, and Visiting Professor for Radar-Navigation at the University of Stuttgart.
After two years of working in design and analysis of large Ground Station Antennae at the Company DORNIER Systems in Friedrichshafen, Germany, he started out space borne SAR system design in 1998. There, he was involved in studies on SAR sensors for Space Shuttle. He was responsible for the performance of the RADARS onboard the European Earth Observation Satellite ERS-1. He designed the German contribution to the SIR-C program, the X-SAR, and last, but not least, he invented the German High Performance SAR to be put on small satellites. Dr Braun is a leading designer of the German SAR Reconnaissance Satellite System SAR-Lupe.
Dr. Braun initiated the development of key SAR technologies in Germany, such as Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics Slotted Waveguide Array SAR Antenna, High Power Amplifiers for C-Band and X-Band, Real-time SAR Processors, and Active Array Antennas for Space borne SAR Systems. He designed Reflector Antenna Systems for several applications. This started in the 80 th with the Cassegrain System for the MRSE (Microwave Remote Sensing Experiment), the first German Imaging Radar onboard the American Space Shuttle, and ended with the Direct-Fed Off-Set Parabol Antenna for the German SAR Satellite System SAR-Lupe to be launched next year (2005). He also designed Antennae for Ground Penetration Radar at frequencies between 1 MHz and 6 GHz. This covered a wide range from adaptive and resistive Dipol Antennae through Wide-Band Horns and Vivaldi Antennae. All of them were designed for up to 100% relative Bandwidth.
Dr. Braun is a Member of IEEE, and the St. Petersburg Academy of Navigation and Motion Control. Dr. Braun holds several Patents on SAR and antenna related systems.
